Are face wipes good for your skin?

I'd never thought about this before; i always use face wipes to remove my make up because it's the easiest way and i can see literally that i've got it off but it made me think the other night what am i actually putting on my face?!

I Googled it and it really got me thinking; all those chemicals that dissolve the make up and then the chemicals in them to give them good shelf life really can't be good for my skin. The skin on your face is going to be sensitive anyway so why am i treating it to so many chemicals.

I really am quite lazy and just want something quick to get my make up off; don't get me wrong i never leave my make up on overnight but i can't be doing with half an hour just to remove something that took me ten minutes to put on.

So the question is; what routine do you do to remove your make up?

Name: Max Factor Face Finity in Beige 55
Claims: Primer, concealer and foundation in one and SPF 20
Retails in Boots for: £11.99

I have to say for some reason i didn't really have much hope for this and i didn't even read the bottle before trying it. It's only now i've realised it has SPF 20 which i'm happy to read. On the Boots website there are 6 shades to choose from and this one is actually the 4th one in! I'm glad i didn't go any lighter as this really seems to match my skin and it's not too dark or orange at all. It has great coverage without feeling too heavy and i've now worn it a few times and it has lasted really well from 6am until 6pm which is when i need it to last without having to apply more in between. It hasn't been greasy or dried out my skin and doesn't really feel like i'm wearing any foundation.

Name: L'Oreal Paris Nude Magique Eau De Teint in 110 Warm Ivory
Claims: Fresh feel foundation, weightless bare perfection
Retails on Boots for: £9.99

I was intruiged by this as it was new and by L'Oreal who made MAtte Morphose. My hopes were high. I've only just noticed now that there are 3 lighter shades than this although this was the lightest one in Boots when i bought it and i presumed 110 was the lightest so this may explain a few things. Looks wise it looks beautiful and elegant. Practicality wise it's a disaster waiting to happen! No pump, no nothing you literally put your finger over the top and pour it out and it's really runny!
I found this patchy and orange though that may be because of the shade. I also found that once i applied it onto my skin it sank in really quickly and it doesn't have much coverage; you can;t work it very well.

My Score: 2/5 - i think this would be higher if i had a lighter shade to try





Name: Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse in 05 Porcelain
Claims: SPF 15, Lightweight feel and matte perfection
Retails in Boots for: £7.69

I didn't realise that this was for combination/oily skin as this isn't stated on the bottle. At first i wasn't too sure on the colour but everyone else said it looked great. The coverage and feel of the foundation was great and it was the mousse feel i was after. It wasn't until i had used th whole container and started another foundation that i realised my skin was dry. I think i would use this again in the summer when i can see my skin more in daylight (having being at work all daylight hours in winter)

Name: Mx Factor Panstik in 25 Fair
Claims: Maximum coverage with minimum effort
Retails at Boots for: £6.99

Similar looking to Maybelline Fit me foundation stick i was interested to see what the differences would be. I'm not completely sure on this one yet. I tried it out today and it didn't seem to give much coverage at all and i ended up using another foundation over the top of it. Again i have only just realised that this isn't the lightest shade but was the lightest one they had in the shop when i brought it which i presumed it was the lightest. It doesn't come out orange exactly but more redish. It is shiny but looks ok for something light though it does feel quite greasy on my face.

My Score: 2/5




My Overall favourite is Max Factor Face Finity, everything about it seems brilliant. Closely followed is Maybelline Fit Me foundation stick because of the easy application and light coverage it gave. I would love to try some of the others in different shades to see if the scores i gave them would change at all. 

Who knew finding a foundation would be so hard!

Foundation Reviews Part 1

Wow what a mission it is to try and find the perfect foundation! I didn't realise how picky i was until it came to it.

So i had the saddened news that my foundation (L'Oreal Matte Morphose) was now discontinued; who knows why because i thought it was popular and it got great reviews on Boots. Anyway that was it; i needed to find a new one before mine ran out! 



Off to Boots i went and after looking online at reviews and prices i picked a few up to try out. I know it ends up being quite a lot of money when i won't use some of them again but what's a girl to do?!


My Skin

I trawled through so many online reviews from fellow bloggers to see their opinion on foundations and it really helped so i'm going to go through mine and what i thought of them but firstly just a bit about my skin so anyone out there with similar skin will know what/won't suit their skin type.

I have dry skin meaning that i moisturise every morning after a shower and i currently use Johnson's Daily Essentials day face care for dry skin. I tend to get dry patches on my temple and either side of my nose. I don't like to wear heavy makeup and like something natural feeling and i've never been fond of liquid foundation; always preffered mousse types. Oh and i'm really super pale!

Name: Collection 2000 - Lasting Perfection in Number 3, Biscuit
Claims: It says it has 16 hour wear, oil free and SPF 20.
Retails at Boots for: £5.99

The SPF i was really happy about and think it is a really great thing. It has a nice little pump and the smell for some reason reminds me of summer. I found though that this is one of the reasons i don't like liquid foundation. It feels really greasy and just doesn't really have much coverage i found. It was shiny and because i don't like to have it caked on i didn't really want to have to use concealer and powder on top. Unfortunatly i can't comment on the 16 hour wear as i took it off well before then for the fact my face felt horrid.

Name: Maybelline - Fit Me Foundation in 120 Classic Ivory
Claims: Natural Coverage and SPF 18
Retails at Boots for: £7.99

Again the SPF is good and something i would be pleased to be in a foundation. I was quite looking forward to using this. I thought the bottle was nice and clean looking and the colour should be ok. Oh how i was wrong! I have never used a foundation that is so shiny! At first i thought i'd applied too much moisturiser so tried it again the following day with less moisturiser but i was so disappointed. No matter how much you blend it in it was just shiny all over, goodness knows what it would have looked like at the end of the day; i didn't wait to find out.

Name: Max Factor Whipped Cream in Number 40, Light Ivory

Claims: Demi-matte coverage giving a radiant glow

Retails at Boots for : £9.99

I was excited to try this as it's new and i've seen the adverts on TV for it. I was happy that it was in a bottle and thought it would be similar to Matte Morphose and not so runny as liquid foundation. Now i picked this up in the lightest shade as i always would but for some reason something just doesn't look right with this foundation. I look so washed out and super pale like i'm ill. I feel like this foundation is very close to liquid as it's not as mousse like as what i'm used to. Sadly it made the dry parts of my skin really noticable too so i pretty much looked awful in it. I think thought that this foundation would be really nice if you had combination skin and if i'd gotten it in a slightly darker shade.

Name: Maybelline Fit Me Foundation Stick in Number 115, Ivory

Claims: Anti-shine 2 in 1. Enriched with powders to absorb any oils

Retails in Boots for: £8.99

Never before had i tried anything like this and it was next to the Maybelline Fit me Foundation so i thought i'd give both a go. I was just intrigued to see what the consitency would be like. It feels like a lipstick and i just applied it over the redness parts of my face to begin with. I was pleasantly surprised with this. No dry patches standing out and it blended into my skin really well. I actually didn't use this for full coverage simply because i didn't need to. I have only used it the once so far and from what i can see it is brilliant to use on it's own when you don;t want a full face of make up. I would use this on a Sunday when i'm chilling but still want to go out with make up on. I did try using this over the Fit Me foundation and it did reduce the shine a little but i just think the foundation was far too greasy for anything.

My Score: 4/5

I'll be doing Part 2 on Tuesday with the other 4 remaining foundations and then i will give my overall favourite and which one i'm going to stick with.

If anyone has any other suggestions though i would love to hear them to give them a go!

Glitter eyes - Glam Crystals Gel Eyeliner

A while ago i went shopping and was wandering around Superdrrug when these little sticks of glitter caught my eye. Now i'm not really one for eye shadow, as beautiful as it looks i just get annoyed with it either coming off or not going right in the first place so i don't wear it all that often.

But who can resist glitter right?!

I got the bright blue one and the gold one; you can't go wrong with gold and the blue i thought would suit me best. They're really simple to apply to your eyes and didn't cause me any irritation or anything.

The glitter and colour is quite dense so i didn't need too much of it and it stayed on for ages until i came to take my make up off. 

It's a great way to brighten things up a bit and a brilliant little thing to carry in your make up bag and use on Christmas do's because of the sparkle!

They did a variety of colours and only cost £2.99 each which you can't complain about!

Pinterest favourite's October

This month was about mainly Halloween, Autumn clothing and Wedding ideas. I absolutely adore the dress in the top picture i think it is so super pretty :) and i love the whole look of the 4th picture; everything about it is so girly and looks so cosy!

There's a lot of halloween make up, halloween nails and halloween decoraton ideas floating around on Pinterest but something about this cat make up is really simple yet effective!

I've been getting so many ideas about weddings from dresses to cakes to venue decorations and there are so many gorgeous ideas out there! I love the back of this dress; i love the detailing on it and the the fact that it's open back makes the detail stand out even more and emphasises the shape of the dress.


The last one is just so true , it made me giggle!

Wavy hair - no salt spray or heat

So at the beginning of the year everyone raved about sea salt spray and i brought some imagining great effects. The first time i used it i have to admit i loved it. But then i realised that i actually didn't need to use it in my hair at all!

Using sea salt spray it tells you to spray into your hair and scrunch up or even put it in a bun. I have fine hair and the spray made my hair wavy but soon fell out and didn't have the desired effect.

I find that straight after i've dried my hair if i shove it up into a bun and leave it for as long as possible then my hair will look just as wavy as if i had used the spray.

I put my hair up in a bun as above and usually then get dressed, have breakfast and do my make up. Once this is done and i make sure that my hair is 100% dry then i scrunch my hair whilst still in the bun and lightly spray with hairspray.

I then take my hair down whilst holding my head upside down and shake my hair out of the bun gently. Then spray with hairspray and scrunch (still whilst my heads upside down) and then tip my head back into normal position and spray the top of my hair with hairspray.

I found that this usually makes my hair stay wavy all day and is so great, quick and easy without having to use sea salt spray :)

Hairband

Today's something a little different, a quick hair do that i really love!

I saw it a while ago and I'm so glad i did because it is super easy and just great if you want your hair up fast but looks great.

1.) First off you need some hair grips and a stretchy hair band. 

2.) Pop the hair band on your head just over your hair. 

3.) Then just grab sections of hair (i have fine hair and used about 2cm sections) and bring it up over the hair band and then loop it through. I prefer to start at the front of my hair and work my way back. 

4.) Just make sure you cover all of the hair band so you can't see any of it apart from the bit at the front on the top of your head.

5.) Then just use the hair pins to hold the hair band in place.

    

Hopefully in the end it will look something like this (except i took the picture before i perfected it as you can see the hair band in the one picture).

I really love this it honestly doesn't take long at all but looks as if it has!

Outfit, face & hair of the day

This is just an outfit i wore the other week when i went shopping. It's getting to that time of year where it's not cold enough to wear a coat but not warm enough to wear a t-shirt. Time to layer up ladies.

Black leggings - H&M; Blue shirt - H&M; jumper - Primark; Bag- TK Maxx

Have to say i love this jumper which i bought a few weeks ago for £6 from Primark. It's only thin but so comfy and i keep resisting to get it in other colours.

  

  

I curled the ends of my hair with my straighteners to give it some volume and my hair always gets kinked in the wind anyway. Light make up with blotted red lips too, i didn't want anything too heavy for a shopping trip!

Have to say i loved this look and the shirt/jumper combination was super comfy and warm!
