What Parsnip got for Christmas and Poorly Parsnip

I was so super excited about Christmas for the fact that i couldn't wait to give Parsnip his presents. I believe everyone should be spoilt at Christmas; be that human or animal. I love seeing him get excited and i knew he would love more toys.

Christmas morning breakfast

Firstly i know he won't really use these but i thought they were adorable! I the lovely little bag off Not On The Highstreet where i personalised it and now i can keep spare toys and treats in there. I just thought it was like him having his own little Christmas stocking!

The hanging sign i got from Ebay; i just couldn't resist! Though i have yet to decide how to attach it to his hutch or where to hand it but it's lovely hand painted :)

I then got him some gnaw sticks though I'm not too sure how much he's used these but from a great brand i'm sure he will gnaw through them all.

The Christmas tree and present came in a pack of 3 (there's also a snowman) and they're just wooden chew toys but how cute that they're festive!

Mr Snowman was by far his favourite! He can be eaten and is completely safe for rabbits but Parsnip just likes to fling him about.

Saying that on Christmas morning when i was putting everything in his hutch he decided to literally throw it all back out and throw Mr Snowman at me! Now Mr Snowman guards his food bowl!

Sussing out his presents

Completely content when i was rubbing his nose

 Super close up!

Poorly Parsnip

Now just before Christmas my family noticed he had what looked like sleep in his eye, so me and Glen got him in my house when the family were out to try and bathe his eye. I had the shock of my life because when we went to pick him up his eye was bleeding and there was blood all in his little eyelashes and down his fur.

I went into panic mode; i now know a similar feeling to what it must be like if your child gets hurt.

It was a Saturday so we had to call the emergency vets and rush him in. The vet took a look at him though and said he has a wart growing on his eye, like where the tear duct part meets his fur. Luckily it seems he had knocked it to make it bleed and it doesn't look too serious so long as it doesn't grow any bigger or irritate him.

We could opt to have it removed but bunnies don't cope well under anaesthetic and it's hard to get them to eat and drink again so that's a no go for now!

I'm so glad he's ok and i haven't got a picture to show you his eye but it doesn't seem to be bothering him but it was so traumatic! Made me so worried about him it's all i could think about for a few days, constantly worrying when i wasn't with him.

That was so long but i like to share his little stories :)

Meet Parsnip -- The Pet Tag

Well, after seeing this lovely post on Vivatramp about her cutie dog Woody; i decided to do this post too (any excuse to talk about Parsnip!)

What is your pet's name?

His name is Parsnip; me and my family just picked the name because we thought it was cute and the fact that i love parsnips! We got it down to a few (including pepper and murray) but when we got him the name 'Parsnip' just seemed to be perfect.

Does your pet have any nicknames?

Oh gosh! I pretty much call him anything i can think of; including Pooch, Chicken Nugget, Baby, Fluff. He honestly must be so confused as to what his name actually is and i think my neighbours think i'm mad when they hear me shouting 'chicken nugget'!

What kind of pet is he and what breed is he?

He's a dwarf lop eared rabbit; which is the breed bigger than a 'mini' rabbit. He was absolutely tiny when we first got him and definitely lived up to the 'dwarf' part. Though now he's over 5 he's so much bigger than i thought he would be though i think most of it's fluff :)

How old is your pet and how long have you had your pet friend?

Well we got little Parsnip on 21st April 2008 from a pet shop and they said he was about 2 months old so we took it literal and now class his birthday as 21st February; which means he's now over 5 and a half years old! I can't believe how fast it's gone it only seems like yesterday that we got him.

How did you get your pet?

I was 16 and my sister was 11 and she really wanted a pet so we finally decided on a rabbit as my dad doesn't like cats and we didn't want a dog, especially as our first pet. I wasn't there on the day that my family went to the pet shop but they originally opted for Parsnips brother but turns out he was already sold so they chose Parsnips instead. They later decided this was the better choice because Parsnip was the only one who was running around generally being a nuisance to his brothers i think. I then went 2 weeks later to meet him and when the lady brought him out it was like love at first sight and i still remember that moment i first saw him :)

What are some quirky things about your pets personality?

I think he has a gorgeous personality! Mostly he loves food, like loves it! In the morning you stand by the door and he will literally freeze and stare at you; then you unlock the door and open it and he will start charging around his hutch in excitement. Then when you open the hutch he sticks his head right out to try and get into the food bowl. I also love it that when he's in his run he will pick up his toy carrot and show off in front of anyone and anything (be that human or animal) the cats think e's mad i swear. Then if you run around his run he will follow you and if you stop so will he and if you change direction so will he.

What does your relationship with your pet mean to you?

The world. I love him to bits and you should see what i've got him for Christmas! I'd love it if he liked to be picked up but it just means that when i do pick him up and hold him tight so he can't get away he soon relaxes and nuzzles into my jumpers and it makes those moment even more special. Animals are so great because uyou can talk to them about anything.

What are some of your favourite pastimes with you pet and what are your favourite memories?

♥ when he was too scared to go up and down his ramp so we had to keep manually moving him until he got the courage to do it

♥ when we first got him and he didn't know how to drink from his water bottle

♥ when i first saw him yawn

♥ when he flops on his side and you see that fluffy tummy!

♥ how excited he gets when he knows i'm about to give him some grass

So as you can tell i treat him like my child and he is so super cute and special to me!

It would be great if you did this too and linked it below :)

Autumn is here

Autumn has well and truly arrived now and it is such a great time to get in the garden and take pictures of the leaves changing colour and insects and animals out and about. Though a certain two people distracted me a bit...

These 2 are absolutely beautiful - Parsnip is so photogenic and i love taking pictures of him, i have so many now!

This little kitty appeared in my garden a few months ago, no idea who owns her (we think it's female) as she has no collar on and she is so affectionate always coming up to me and my family meowing and looking for a fuss. As we have no idea where she lives, we have no idea what her name is; but we've decided to name her 'Bear'. The first time we saw her she seemed huge and so fluffy, hence her name :)

Do you love autumn?

Weekend snaps

Well another week has gone by already and apparently we should be getting ready for Christmas?! 4 months early! Yep, i saw my first lot of Christmas cards this weekend in the shops. And as much as i love Christmas i think this is far too early!

My Bonsai Tree doesn't seem to grow?! :/  should it?

We've had some nice sunny weather lately so i thought I'd make the most of it and take some snaps because no doubt i'll be missing it in the winter. I went shopping this weekend and ended up getting nothing of what i wanted! Nothing at all, i was so disappointed but least it saves the money in my bank :) I've been on a window shopping spree on ebay though and now i'm watching so many nice items! That's why i love ebay so much :)

And me and my sister won a dress on ebay today i was bidding for her :) *High five* i love that feeling when you win something on bids on ebay and it's a right bargain!

Little Parsnip obviously decided i wasn't good enough for his attention so turned his back on me. That little white tail is so cute!!!

What have you been upto this weekend?

Rabbit's are underestimated

Hi everyone :)

I hope you're all great! A bit of a different post today...

The other day it occurred to me that not many people actually have rabbits as pets. Well, I know a lot of people do but if you compare it to the number of people who have cats and dogs it's a lot less. I think rabbits are underestimated and people assume they're boring when thinking of getting a pet so go with a cat or dog instead because they're more familiar.

So today ladies I'm going to do a post on rabbits an why I think they make brilliant pets ;)

Now as you know I have a 5 year old dwarf lop called Parsnip. Here's a picture to show you how gorgeous he is!!

I suppose I didn't really know much about rabbits when we got ours and I wasn't so clued up on them but I'm proud to say he has impressed me and shown me how clever he is (I swear he is!)

Here's some little bunny facts for you because I didn't know all of these and wish I had because I might have been surprised:

  • Rabbit's can be litter trained
  • A rabbit can live as long as 10 years, occasionally longer
  • They can make verbal noises like purring like a cat
  • Rabbit's need hay to help them digest their food and stop hair balls
  • Predators can literally scare a rabbit to death
  • Rabbit's are really clean and can groom themselves
  • The only place a rabbit can sweat is through the pads on it's feet
  • Rabbits have great sight, hearing and smell - i was so surprised that if there's a fox in the area, Parsnip will thump because he's scared and i now have a mothers instinct and even in the middle of the night i will hear him and get up (his hutch is in the garden and my room is at the back of the house) even if i can't see a fox Parsnip can sense it.

When I got Parsnip I just kind of thought "oh how cute is he but doesn't he just sit there and sleep all day?!" I was wrong! Here's just a few of the things that Parsnip does that I never thought he would:

  • He knows when it's feeding time. In the morning he sits right at the front of his hutch looking out ready. Then when you unlock the door he stares right at you and then as soon as that doors open he runs around like a loon because he's so excited (I don't blame him I rather feel the same way about food) then when you actually try to put his bowl in his hutch he practically jumps into his food bowl and scoffs the lot!

  • He acts like a dog. He doesn't actually know the command 'fetch' but when I go outside (or when the neighbours cat is there) he picks up his toy carrot and races around his run with it in his mouth. It's hilarious to watch and he loves the attention.

  • He gets super super excited when you play with him. He does the whole toy carrot in his mouth act and whilst he's running he will thump to make sure he has my attention. He will stand up on his back legs looking up at me (as you can see from the picture above) and he just loves having someone talk to him.

  • When he's running around like a mad bunny if you run around too then he will follow you. Then when you stop he will too and if you change direction so will he. I don't know how he has so much energy coz I get knackered!

  • He recognises when we get up each morning because when I go in the shower he gets up and runs around in his hutch (yet again with his carrott)

I would absolutely urge anyone who wants a pet to get a Rabbit or at least look into it. I love Parsnip to bits and can't imagine it without him. It's great because he loves his own company so is fine in the day to do his own thing and then loves company when i get home. I'd love him to be a house rabbit but i think he quite enjoys being outside and Rabbit's don't cope too well in the heat like with central heating.

You know when mothers go on about being proud of their child and insisting that their offspring is the best...i feel like that about Parsnip. I feel like a really proud mother :)

I hope you enjoyed my ramblings today, i just felt the need to share the love!

Happy 5th Birthday Parsnip! :)

So, today is this little chaps birthday :) Or there abouts. 4 years and 10 months ago we went and collected Parsnip; and they told us he was 2 months old. So we took it literally so that we would have a date to celebrate his birthday.

Ever since he arrived at home he has been a bundle of joy and brought happiness to the whole family! He has such a brilliant personality he is really like my baby. He is happy the majority of the time and runs and jumps around carrying his little carrot. He loves attention and in the summer when we (or even the neighbours cat) are outside by his run he can't resist running around showing off with his carrot.

Oh and if i run round the outside of his run, he will follow me and run with me even when i change direction :)

Sometimes he goes in moods and will go and hide in his bedroom or nudge his bowl when you try to feed him but this is only occasionally.

I can't believe it's been almost 5 years since we got him but i wanted to share these pictures of him because he deserves everybody to see him! I love seeing pictures and stories of other people's pets so if you've done a post on yours, link them below :)
